Where Is My Civil Design And Survey Software?

IMAGINiT's Civil Blogger, Doug Benoit, shares his insight on Autodesk® civil engineering software including AutoCAD®, AutoCAD® Land Desktop and AutoCAD® Civil 3D®. In this month's newsletter, Doug shares an excerpt of his blog:

Can't find your Civil Design and Survey Software? Actually, you already have it (if you've received your Autodesk® AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 software). Everything is now on the Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2008 DVD. When you installed LDT Comp did you noticed that it took a little longer than it use to? That's because Civil Design and Survey were installed right after LDT was. Don't forget to disable your antivirus and shut down all other applications when you install, or all bets are off as to whether it will work or not.

  Success Story: Sauk County

Sauk County, located in South Central Wisconsin sought to build and manage a Web GIS that can be used by all of its departments. With the combination of Autodesk® MapGuide, third-party application software mPower Integrator™, and the involvement of IMAGINiT's GIS Specialist, Scott Hameister, Sauk County was able to create a dyanamic Web GIS.

Today, Sauk County has 14 GIS departmental websites, as well as five public websites. GIS Specialist Sally Cobb declared, "We were really excited to begin working together with the different departments. Serving the needs of the departmental users was exactly what we envisioned for the GIS."

Tip: Creation of Deployment for AutoCAD® 2008 Civil Products
(Applies to AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2008, AutoCAD® Civil 3D® - Land Desktop Companion and AutoCAD® Land Desktop 2008)

When you created a deployment from the original installation media for Civil 3D or Land Desktop, it took much longer than expected. That's because the new installer for these products incorrectly copies the data from the installation media to the destination folder multiple times, which increases the deployment creation time considerably.

To avoid this issue, it is strongly recommended that you copy the installation files to a local drive first and then run the installer on the local drive to create the deployment.
